Bucharest, Romania’s vibrant capital, was the destination this time. Not just for its historic charm and lively streets but also to attend my very first conference; BeAgent International event. This trip has been a blend of professional growth and cultural exploration.
The 15th of December, after an easy flight and a very good nap, I landed on Bucharest international airport (Henri Coandă International Airport). A fellow travel agent was waiting for me at the airport, and we traveled to the city center together. We decided to go by public transport and took the bus. Our journey showcased glimpses of grand architecture and the beautiful merge of history and modernity.
I normally stay in hostels as I travel by myself mostly, but for this trip I stayed in the 5-star hotel Radisson Blu for the conference. For me, this was overwhelming luxury. The hotel was beautiful, and I shared my room with only one person. So, this was a whole new experience for me, not sleeping in a dorm room.
After settling in, we met other agents in the lobby. We decided to do some sightseeing ourselves before the start of the conference and went to see a Christmas market. The market was beautiful with lots of stalls with food. I got myself a snack there and enjoyed the festive vibes.
When we got back to the hotel it was time for the opening of the event and a change to network. I talked to lots of different agents, some who I already knew, some I didn’t know yet (while some of them knew me already 😅). After networking I was grabbed to make a testimonial in both Dutch and English before going out to have some fun at a bar.
On Monday it was conference day, which was also held in Radisson Blu. The space was impressive and so big. It was a long and full day full of inspiration, learning new things and changes to network. We talked about the tips & tricks to build your own business, mindset, setting goals, building a team and so on. One of the key messages was “if you do the work, you gain the work”, or in other word: work hard and you will succeed. Every problem is a chance, every chance can lead to success, and you choose yourself what you want to see, positive or negative. Meeting professionals from so many different places in the world was a true highlight. The energy was amazing and even though it was a long day, it was a very fun one with everything we got to do.
After being inspired by so many people and fellow travel agents it was time for dinner. We decided to go to an Italian restaurant with the Europe team. During dinner we talked about the conference but also about our own experiences with traveling and our own preferences for example. The pizza I ordered was so good and with the amazing company, dinner was over really fast. We agreed to go to the same bar as the day before with some other people from the conference. There was a limousine arranged and it was a party itself to ride to the bar. Music, champagne and fun people is all you need. The bar was pretty busy with a lot of the agents, and we had a very good time having fun and dancing.
Tuesday it was time to see the country a little bit. There was a tour arranged to go into the mountains and ride a snow mobile. I started sitting in the back and enjoying the ride. Somewhere in the middle we stopped to take some pictures, videos and of course more testimonials. It was so beautiful and I was already so excited. After the stop it was my turn to drive. I absolutely loved it; it was truly amazing. I had so much fun driving like crazy on the icy roads. After the snow mobiles we got on the bus again and drove to a cable. It took us op the mountains and there it was: mountains covered in snow and a beautiful sunset. This is the part where I truly got excited. If you know me, you know I love the mountains and I love watching the sunset. This combination was amazing, and it was so incredibly pretty. We ended the day relaxing at the Therme in Bucharest. Such a great vibe there. Enjoying the hot water and all the other relaxing things. I would’ve fallen asleep if it wasn’t close to closing time.
Wednesday it was time to say my goodbyes to all the wonderful people I met. After some goodbyes and checking out I went into the city one more time. With just a 15-minute walk I arrived at the tattoo shop where I had an appointment. The artist was amazing and we had a good conversation about traveling among other things. I’m so happy with the tattoo and he did a really good job. After the appointment I walked back to the hotel where I said some more goodbyes and we ordered a ride to the airport.
Once in the plane, we weren’t allowed to take off due to a storm in Amsterdam. The captain told us we had to wait for about 1,5 hours. Sitting that long in a plane, not being able to move around much on top of the duration of the flight itself was something I wasn’t looking forward too. In the end we got the okay to take off after 45 minutes. Once in Amsterdam, I went to baggage claim. I was traveling with hand luggage only, but because the flight was full, I had to check it in. I prepared myself for the wait to get my luggage because in my experience it always takes a long time before it’s on the belt in Amsterdam. Luckily for me, it was there pretty fast. As we arrived later than planned, I decided to have some diner at the airport before taking the train back home.
Back home I was absolutely exhausted physically. Even though it has been some busy few days, I felt mentally charged. I needed this trip and I’m already looking forward to my next trip to Iceland in a day or 2!
This trip was more than just a professional journey—it was an enriching experience on multiple levels. The city’s and country’s charm, the warmth and good vibes of those amazing people and the energy of the conference made it truly memorable. I would definitely recommend going to Bucharest for a city trip or doing a road trip through Romania.
Until next time, Bucharest!
